Under the DMC Act, 1957, the property tax is levied on all lands and building in Delhi and the owners, and in some cases the occupants of lands & buildings, are liable to pay tax and file the property tax returns.
Exemption from property tax among other things is available in cases of vacant lands or buildings in rural villages only, that too upto covered area of 200 sq. mtrs. (on pro rata basis) and only if self occupied for residential purpose by the original owner or his/her legal heirs.
All are called upon to pay Property Tax by 30th June, 2011, to avail PROPERTY TAX REBATES as under and to SAVE simple interest @1% per month on late payment of tax on/after 1.7.2011:

How to File Property Tax Return (PTR)

Pay Property Tax. Avoid penalty. Non-filling of returns may lead to prosecution of imprisonment and fine.
||RETURNS can be filed ONLINE at www.mcdpropertytax.in from any where and TAX in such cases can be paid ONLINE or by CHEQUES / DDs to be paid at AXIS BANK, or MCD Offices or by CASH at Axis Bank or through ITZ Counters with 2% service charges. OR MANUALLY through PTR Forms at MCD Offices, and TAX in such cases cna be paid by CHEQUES / DDs OR by CASH upto Rs. 5,000/- at MCD offices. Only one cheque/DD of tax amount per property is accepted and be issued in favour of "MCD PROPERTY TAX."
||CASH can be paid through ITZ Counters with 2% service charges.
||CHEQUES / DDs to be paid at AXIS BANK, or MCD Offices or by CASH at Axis Bank.
||All Property Tax Offices will remain open on 18th, 25th & 26 June, 2011 as well.
